NEW YEARS BREAKFAST

Every New Years Eve breakfast, Blake makes us homemade biscuits and gravy.  It's a tradition we've shared for six years, and we are so excited to continue it with the girls as they get older!

Here's the recipe for Blake's favorite biscuits + gravy:

Biscuits:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons cubed butter
  • 3/4 cup (more or less if needed) milk

Gravy:

  • 1 lb. sausage (we use maple sausage, but if unavailable use maple syrup to taste)
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 2.5 cups of milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 °F.

In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt together. Cut butter into mixture until it begins to look like cornmeal.

Make a well with flour mixture and slowly add milk into the middle. Knead dough with your fingers and add milk when necessary. Roll out dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to desired thickness. Cut with small biscuit cutter.

Butter bottom of skillet and place biscuits in pan. Bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

Cook sausage until there's minimal red remaining.

Pour in milk and flour.

Stir well, turn to medium heat until boiling then simmer. Let sit until thickens to desired thickness.

Enjoy!!! And Happy New Years from us to you!
